Spinocid is a preparation of Spinosad which is a pediculicide and scabicide. Spinosad is a mixture of Spinosyn A and Spinosyn D. Spinosad causes neuronal excitation in insects. After periods of hyperexcitation, lice and mites become paralyzed and die.

Spinocid is indicated for treatment of-
• Scabies infestations in adult and pediatric patients 4 years of age or older.
• Head lice infestations in adult and pediatric patients 6 months of age or older.
Route of administration: Spinocid should be administered topically.

Treatment of Scabies infestations
• Shake bottle well before use.
• Apply a sufficient amount to skin to completely cover the body from the neck to the toes (including the folds of skin, between fingers and toes, underneath fingernails and toenails and soles of the feet). For patients with balding scalp, also apply product to the scalp, hairline, temples, and forehead.
• Allow to absorb into the skin and dry for 10 minutes before getting dressed. Leave on the skin for at least 6 hours before showering or bathing.
• Wash hands after use.
Treatment of Head Lice infestations
• Shake bottle well before use.
• Before applying, cover your face and eyes with towel and apply a sufficient amount to cover dry scalp, then apply to dry hair. Depending on hair length, apply adequately to cover entire scalp and hair.
• After complete application, leave on for 10 minutes, then thoroughly rinse off with warm water.
• Wash hands after use. If live lice are seen 7 days after the first treatment, a second treatment should be applied.
Adjunctive measures
• Wash in hot water or dry-clean all recently worn clothing, hats, used bedding and towels.
• Wash personal care items in hot water.
• Wash in hot water or dry-clean any bedding, clothing and towels used by anyone having scabies.
Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women with spinosad.
Lactation: There is no information regarding the presence of spinosad in human milk, the effects on the breast-fed infant or the effects on milk production.
Use in children and adolescents
The safety and effectiveness of spinosad in patients below 6 months of age with head lice infestation and in patients below 4 years of age with scabies infestation have not been established.
For topical use only. It is not for oral, ophthalmic or intravaginal use. If it gets in or near the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. Systemic exposure to benzyl alcohol has been associated with serious adverse reactions and death in neonates and low birth-weight infants when administered intravenously. Apply on pediatric patient only under direct supervision of an adult.
The most common side effects are application site erythema, ocular erythema and dry skin.
It is contraindicated in patients with history of known hypersensitivity to spinosad or any other components of this product.
Drug interaction with medication: No significant drug reaction has been found yet.
Drug interaction with food and others: Not applicable.
In case of overdose, general supportive measures and proper monitoring should be initiated.
